Here's how to make print files in Adobe Illustrator or Adobe InDesign:
1. Document Setup
Units:
mm (millimetres)
Bleed:
3mm all-round
Colour Mode:
CMYK
Raster Effects:
High (300ppi)
2. When Designing
All images should be embedded and have a resolution of at least 300ppi
All fonts should be properly embedded or outlined
Any colours and images that are on the edge of the artboard should be extended into the bleed area
3. Creating the Print File
Delete any hidden layers
Convert everything to CMYK
Save as a PDF
In the Marks and Bleed tab:
[tick] Trim Marks
[tick] Use Document Bleed Settings
